I recently took a trip to Oklahoma city, OK. It was a great trip I was there for two day and did six shows (three each day), these were all childcare centers and were a ton of fun. The shows went over really well and both the children and myself had a blast, which is what it is really all about right?

One of the more memorible moments actually came not at a show but at the hotel. We had finished the shows for the first day and went to to hotel and checked in. We parked at the entrance nearest to the hotel room and started to unload stuff from the car. When we where spotted by a mother and her two children who where pointing saying “look at the clown”. I hope I helped make a memory of that stay at the hotel for them, and that they will remember for a long time “the hotel they stayed at with the clown.”

Saturday Jan. 5, 2008 I was at the Wichita Thunder hockey game helping celebrating Thunder Dog’s birthday. At the game Thunder Dog invited all of his mascot friends (and me, Puddles the Clown).

Before the start of the game we entertained and played with the fans as they enter the arena. Then during the first intermission we divided into two teams and played a game of broomball. Basically we run around on the ice and hope we don’t fall. It’s a ton of fun and I love it. I actually scored a goal in this years game, but the announcer gave the credit to Wushock. It’s ok because he was doing a great job out there and actually got the pass to me to score.

This year I got a video of the game. check it out. Just a note on the video the start of the game is cut off someone decide to stop and stand in front of the camera man so you couldn’t see anything, so the video starts up just after T-dog scores the first goal.

At the game I tried to rest my voice, but it was a good, exciting game and that made it a bit harder to just sit there and quitely watch. I remember especially the second goal that was scored to I excitedly jumped up and cheered… well sort of nothing much really come out.

I had a blast at kidfest though, and it wa great seeing so many people I hope they had fun laughing and playing because I know I had fun with them.

One of the greatest things about being a clown is of course putting the smiles of the face of those I meet… even when doing something as simple as driving.

It is amazing the looks I get when I am just driving to where ever I am going. I cannot tell you how many times I have been driving and either passed a car and then had the car speed up to wave at me. Or have a car pass me then slow down to wave.

Those are fairly common happenings, but I have also had people hanging out the window of the car with a camera tring to take a picture… yes while driving down the road.

The only bad part is that I am afraid that sometime someone’s enthusiam is going to cause an accident and I don’t want to have to fill out that accident report.

So… that means that there is an actually act of congress that proves that clowns are providing a valuable service. Every year during national clown week (and the rest of the year for that matter) clowns (including me, Puddles) go out and instead of taking the week off, work even harder to share the giggles, smiles, and laughs.

Think about that, would your boss do that during boss’s week?

This last weekend I performed at a birthday party, this was a repeat birthday party. I performed last year for his sixth birthday and then this year for his seventh.

They live on, and the party was at McConnell Air Force Base, so I had to get a pass to get to the party, this year things went a little smoother than last, as I knew more what to expect.

We had to meet up with them at the visitor center and get a pass there and then we could go onto the base and to the party.

The real interesting part came as we were leaving last years party…

Ok so the party was over, at least for me, and we are heading toward the gate and toward Rock rd. and there are two guards standing there motioning for us to stop, one of the guards has a dog. We are told to pull off to the side. He tells us, something about a vehicle inspection or something I don’t really remember exactly (it was a year ago). I am pretty sure it was just a random thing. So anyway, we pull off to the side and he tells us to open all the doors, the trunk and the hood of the car, and step to the side. We did and then the dog went around and sniffed the car.

Then, of course as I am standing there with the guard and the car all opened up and the dog sniffing around, that is when everybody decided it is time to get on the base and now there is a line of cars to get on the base, seeing me standing there. Probabally put a few smiles on some faces and maybe a couple of confused people wondering “what is going on”.

It wasn’t really that bad and didn’t take but just a minute or so. What was the most interesting to me is the way they reacted to me, it didn’t phase him at all that I was a clown, like it happens everyday, quite professional. After we were done and on our way I was thinking I should have stayed just a few minutes longer, made an extra balloon or something, so they would have stopped another car. Then we could have stared and wondered about them.

I spend a fair amount of my time working on new balloon creations and inproving my other creations. Yet it never ceases to amaze me that a majority of the time when I am out making balloon, that most of the time I am ask for the same creations over and over. I have probabally made thousands of dogs.

I was performing at a birthday party over the weekend and most of the kids were wanting a dog balloon creation. I had made about 4 or 5 of the children balloon dog, just what they wanted. The next kid I asked him what kind of balloon he wanted, he was kinda quiet and shy, he said something, but he spoke so softly I could not hear him, however it did not sound like he said he wanted a dog. So I asked again offering suggestions, what’s you favorite animal, would you like a hat, etc. he answered all question with a “no” and a shake of his head. Finally one of the others held up her dog and said do you want a dog like mine. I looked and him and asked him if he wanted a dog and there was a big smile and a nod “yes” so I made him a dog.

I am not complaining because it doesn’t matter to me if they want a dog or anything else, after all that is what it is about, what they want, not what I want to make. I could spend a long time on a complex creation that requires a ton of skill, and looks amazing and they could care less. Or I can fully inflate a balloon to just a plain straight balloon, and they will have a blast waving and it a throwing it around.
